Hello & Welcome to My Portfolio,

My name is Dorothy Childs, and I am a non-binary artist based out of Chicago and am currently in my last semester of undergrad at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago for my BFA. I consider everything I do in my life to be part of my practice, but my degree focus at SAIC has been in Animation, Visual Communication/Graphic Design, and Fiber Material Studies. I also enjoy creating my own Zines/Comics, as well as drawing Tattoo Flashes and doing Sticks and Poke Tattoos on the side.

Throughout my time at SAIC, I learned visual storytelling and how to collaborate and communicate with other artists to facilitate growth and quality work. I hope to create funny, visceral, or surreal experiences between the viewer and my art that makes one reflect on their own experiences with nature, base material, and confronting the other. I normally explore these topics through mediums like animation, comic illustration, or conceptual fiber pieces, but I am always eager to learn new mediums and techniques, given someone would like to explain them to me.
